Patients’ stories

Marie-Rose Bircher

After more than 20 years of suffering, I met Prof. Dr. med. Clément WERNER in summer 2014 by chance and had my first consultation. The treatment that followed was a unique experience.

Since spring 2015 my mobility has come back, I have hardly complained, have a full range of motion and I’m back leading hiking tours. I now have a quality of life that I did not have for more than 20 years.

I’m truly grateful for this enormous gift. Every single day when I get up in the morning I can almost not believe that the results are so ideal. Before the surgery, I was desperate because of the pain and
loss of function. I’m truly thankful and hope that many more patients can experience the same.

The time before the surgery I hardly could walk, not even sit, and not even lying in bed for a full night.

I was suffering 24/7 of severe pain. After the surgery done by Prof. Dr. med. C. WERNER I’ve got my previous life quality back. I’m completely free of any complaints, I’m even able to sit normally, to walk, and to lie without any pain.

At our first meeting, Professor Werner observed that I had a tendency to walk “out of round”, you could almost say “hobble”, and made it clear to me that I had acquired a protective posture with every movement. Unfortunately, the hips had become a bit worn over time. Constant pain, restless or sleepless nights, and restricted movements impaired my everyday life.

Professor Werner explained to me, with patience and clarity, the rather complicated facts. We carefully discussed the symptoms and causes, and Professor Werner gave a comprehensive and detailed explanation of the various treatment options, from just “letting it be” to surgery, which impressed me very much.

Though his colleagues shied away from the challenge, Professor Werner immediately had a goal-oriented solution: “Which side hurts more?” – “Depends, sometimes here, sometimes there.” – “Good – then let’s do both sides together.”

And so, we went ahead with the operation, which went very well.

After a good two months, I was back on my skis, and was allowed to make my first turns in the snow. The nights became quiet again. Since then, walking and hiking are a great pleasure like before, regardless of the duration. The experiences are not clouded or overshadowed by the pain and discomfort which characterized by my previous condition.

Thanks to Professor Werner, his expertise and his craft, my quality of life has improved significantly. A heartfelt thank you for this. I am very happy to have taken this path together with Professor Werner and would choose it again anytime.
